Argentina midfielder Manuel Lanzini has suffered a major knee injury less than a week before the start of this summer's FIFA World Cup in Russia, the Argentine national football team said on Friday.
"Manuel Lanzini suffered, in today's morning training, the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee," the Argentine team said via their official Twitter account.
The 25 year-old, who plays for West Ham in the English Premier League, was named by Argentina head coach Jorge Sampaoli in his squad for the World Cup, which will kick off in Moscow on 14 June.
Lanzini has scored one goal in four matches for Argentina since making his international debut in 2017.
Two-time World Cup winners Argentina will play Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria in Group D at the tournament.
