English Premier League club West Ham United have commemorated their 1980 FA Cup Final victory over Arsenal in the official unveiling of their new 2019/20 season playing kits.

The club’s most recent major trophy, the 1980 edition of the FA Cup tournament also marks the last time any team from outside England’s top-flight has won the competition, with the Hammers competing in the second division when they were victorious over the first division Gunners.

West Ham’s home and away strips for the upcoming domestic campaign are a throwback to the kits worn throughout the 1979/80 season.

The new home shirt is modelled on the Admiral-manufactured jersey used between 1976 and 1980, with claret serving as the base colour and sky-blue for the shoulders and chest.

Whilst the tops of the shoulders are marked with a claret trim, the shirt also features a series of horizontal blue stripes across the chest, with the kit being finished off with claret shorts and sky-blue socks.

Despite the home strip facing a generally mixed reception from Hammers fans, there’s no debate about how to summarise Umbro’s execution of their 1980 FA Cup Final-inspired away kit.

Absolute. Class.

The all-white kit, including jersey, shorts and socks, has proven a HUGE winner with the fans, and it’s not hard to see why the gorgeous away strip is so popular.

The shirt’s v-neck collar and sleeve-cuffs utilise claret and blue stripes, whilst the tops of the shoulders also feature a thick, sky-blue band with a subtle ‘Umbro diamond’ pattern.

The West Ham logo features claret detailing, white fill and a blue border.
