Clut, 18, has been on the bench twice for the Roar’s first-team this season after joining the club in the off-season.

Wehrman, who assists Brisbane’s youth team head coach Jeff Hopkins, says Clut is “quite sharp”.

“He was offered a contract with Western Sydney’s youth team but Mike (Mulvey) was able to secure him with us,” he said.

“The kid’s got something as well, he’s only a short, little compact kind of thing but he’s got a pretty vicious shot on him. He can hit a ball pretty powerfully. He’s got quick feet and a sharp turn.”

The Roar youth side has managed two wins, two draws and a loss from its opening five matches in the National Youth League.

Clut scored a long-range effort against Melbourne Heart’s youth team and has been pushing for inclusion in the Brisbane first-team in recent weeks.

“He gets caught a few times here and there but he’s learning his trade,” Wehrman said.

“The tempo that we train at and play at is quite high, and he’s probably not been used to it a lot.

“The first couple of (youth team) games – he’s done quite well, he’s probably been one of our best players – but it’s a matter of getting probably eight or nine games before he goes OK that’s what I have to do every time and every session and every training.

“He’s one of these kids that is really keen to learn. Whenever you talk with him he’s really focused and he wants to really make a future out of this football thing.”

Originally from Western Sydney, Clut had a stint with Nike’s global football competition The Chance, trialling with Barcelona and Stoke City, and played last season with Parramatta FC. The Green Valley-raised playmaker is a graduate of the Futboltec academy and Westfield Sports High School.

Wehrman says Roar first-team boss Mike Mulvey shares his view on Clut.

“He trains pretty regularly with the first team and I know Mike’s got a big opinion of him, because he’s probably one of the youth team contracted players that played most in the pre-season,” Wehrman added.

“I think he thinks he’s going to be a big talent as well.”
