Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has praised youngster Christian Theoharous for his involvement in their 1-1 draw with Brisbane Roar on Saturday night.
Theoharous played just his fourth game for the club with three of them coming this season.
The 17-year-old recently re-joined the club after being away on Young Socceroos duty in the 2018 U-19 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
And the teenager immediately made an impact on his return, his cross was not dealt with by Avram Papadopoulos as Besart Berisha opened the scoring with just over 10 minutes remaining.
While Muscat admitted he was frustrated that they conceded soon after, he was excited about Theoharous’ future.
“It was just one of those games where it just seemed like one big battle, we couldn’t keep the ball for anywhere near as long as what we needed to, we gained some territory, gained some clear and better opportunities,” Muscat said.
“Having said that we go 1-0 up, Chrissy comes on and he was positive, you sense he was playing without any burden and pressure or a lack of confidence.
"But to not hold out for 10 minutes, it’s frustrating.
“When Chrissy comes on, he was showing he was playing without any stress, and he played with some belief.”
Muscat believes there's something special about the youngster.
“Age is one thing, but there’s a number of things. You can’t just use age in isolation, Chris has got some good assets that many in the league probably haven’t got,” he said.
“There are still some areas he needs to work on, he’s maturing as he goes along and he’s got a real big opportunity.
"Ultimately it’s going to be down to him to take the right steps forward and take that opportunity.”
