Perth Glory 1 (Joseph Knowles 12’)
Venue: Wanderers Oval, Newcastle
Saturday, 16 November 2013

Newcastle Jets made it two wins on the trot with an emphatic win over bottom-placed Perth Glory on Saturday. It took just ten minutes for the Jets to take the lead through Kale Bradbery, but Joseph Knowles shocked the home crowd with an equalising goal for the Glory two minutes later. James Virgili had the Jets back in front not too long after, before adding a second just after the hour mark to make it 4-1 following Thomas Waller’s effort five minutes prior. Joey Gibbs chipped in with a brace in the last ten minutes to cap off a big win for the Jets.

AIS 1 (Marc Marino 90+3’)
Melbourne Heart 1 (Benjamin Garuccio 68’)
Venue: AIS Grass Fields, Canberra

Melbourne Heart was on track for a third win from the opening four games of the season against the Australian Institute of Sport but were denied a win in the last seconds thanks to a Marc Marino equaliser. Ben Garuccio hit the crossbar in the first-half before breaking the deadlock in the 68th minute with a rebounded effort past Jordan Thurtell in the AIS goals. Heart held firm and were seconds away from victory before a defensive lapse allowed Marino to sneak home a late goal from close range.

Sydney FC 5 (Mitch Mallia 12’, 48’, 82’, Josh MacDonald 32’ PEN, Christopher Zuvela 63’)
Adelaide United 2 (Anthony Costa 48’ PEN, Nikola Milesunic 80’)
Venue: Wollongong

Top of the table Sydney FC continued their 100% start to the season with a convincing victory over the previously undefeated Adelaide United. The Reds had only conceded one goal in the opening three games but the Sydney side was just far too clinical in front of goal. Mitchell Mallia was the hero with a hat-trick after opening the scoring on 12 minutes. Josh McDonald doubled Sydney’s lead from the penalty spot before Malia added a third. Anthony Costa pulled one back for Adelaide shortly before the hour mark through a spot-kick of their own, but Christopher Zuvela made it 4-1 not long after to deny United any hope of getting back in to the game. Nikola Milesunic did manage to pull another goal back for United with ten minutes remaining but it was shortly cancelled out as Mallia banged in his hat-trick to wrap up the scoring.

Central Coast Mariners 1 (Adam Kwasnik 32’)
Brisbane Roar 1 (Samuel Sibatuara 68’)
Venue: Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence, Tuggerah

Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar could not be separated in the last of the Saturday games, playing out a 1-1 draw at the CCM Centre of Excellence. Adam Kwasnik was on the score-sheet for the Mariners in the first-half after converting Michael Neill’s delivery. The Mariners had a fair share of chances to extend their lead but failed to put away their opportunities which allowed the Roar to nab an equaliser mid-way through the second-half. Samuel Sibatuara drifted his way through the midfield and past the Mariners defence to slot past goalkeeper David Bradasevic.

Melbourne Victory 4 (James Jeggo 40’, 56’, Andrew Nabbout 71’, Francesco Stella 80’)
Western Sydney Wanderers 1 (Lawrence Hanna 61’)
Venue: Lakeside Stadium, Melbourne

Melbourne Victory put in a stellar second-half performance to dispose of the Western Sydney Wanderers 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. James Jeggo opened the scoring for the home side just before the break before adding a second ten minutes in to the second period. Lawrence Hanna pulled one back for the visitors from a corner-kick five minutes later but Andrew Nabbout restored Victory’s two goal advantage shortly afterwards. Francesco Stella headed in from a corner with ten minutes to go to cap off a big win for Victory.
