Smith, 24, joined the MLS on loan from the Cherries last year and has become a regular at left back for the Sounders.

His loan ends in June – but Smith says he now wants to stay at the club to see out the whole season.

"It's definitely possible for me to stay," Smith told the Sounders Weekly. "I would like to see the season out.

"I think we've got a great group this year and I think we can do some special things."

The Socceroo has 19 caps for Australia after making the switch in 2014 from representing England to pulling on the green and gold instead.

Although he featured often for former coach Ange Postecoglou, he was overlooked by Bert van Marwijk for the World Cup last year and by Graham Arnold for this year's Asian Cup.

The former Liverpool prodigy joined Bournemouth in 2016 but struggled for first team action, leading to his loan move to the USA.

Now he's keen to bed in at Seattle.

"I haven't heard anything personally from that side of it," he admitted.

"But I think the clubs will be speaking soon-is, rather than later, to work out what we're going to do."
