The 21-year-old defender joins the League One promotion hopefuls after six years with Fulham.

Burgess was out of contract at Craven Cottage, having had loan spells at League One clubs Bury and Oldham during the 2016-17 season.

The Scotland-born defender has represented Australia at Under-23 and Under-20 levels, along with the country of his birth's Under-19s.

“It’s the right time for me to do that and I’ve been presented with a very good opportunity to sign for Scunthorpe,” Burgess told the club website.

“That’s based on me playing against the club last season and it feels like the right time for me to move on and this was a big opportunity."

Scunthorpe came close to promotion last season, finishing third in League One before missing out to Millwall in the play-offs.

“I have two main goals coming to the club,” Burgess said.

“One is to play games and with that my second goal is to hopefully help the team achieve promotion.

“If I can achieve both of those goals, I’ll be absolutely delighted.”

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander was thrilled to secure Burgess’ services after impressing in England’s third tier last term.

“Cameron played a full season last year out on loan, and we know a lot about him,” Alexander told the club website.

“He’s a player who is desperate to kick his career on now. He’s been out on loan from Fulham and wants to go out and be his own man, and find the best club to do that.

“After speaking to him on a few occasions, we’ve all decided this is the best club for him to do that.

“We’re delighted to get him on board and he’s a lad who’s already proven how good he is.

“He has lots more potential and we feel we can improve him here. He can certainly play a massive part in what we do in the future.”
