After their fixtured clash with Reading FC was postponed on the weekend, English Championship side Nottingham Forest FC have ensured that they made the most of the situation, donating around 3,000 food parcels to a local homeless charity.

The Midlands club have received immense praise for their generosity, acting fast to deliver the food items to local charity Framework after their match with Reading was called off when heavy rainfall left the pitch of their home stadium, The City Ground, entirely unplayable.

Approximately 3000 items, including pies, pasties, hot dogs and bread rolls were donated, with a representative from the organisation, Ceesay Nfally, telling Metro.co.uk:

“It was a very nice gesture. Food is always welcome.”

Framework operates in the local area and helps to combat homelessness by providing housing, health, employment, support and care services for people with in diverse, difficult circumstances.

Forest has supported the charity for several years now, and made the organisation its official charity partner last season. This is now the second occasion on which the club has donated food items from an abandoned match to the charity.

10th-place Forest find themselves just five points off league-leaders West Bromwich Albion after 14 matches and could have drawn themselves even closer if the home fixture against 21st-place Reading FC had gone ahead.
