Football Federation Australia (FFA) has confirmed the 2018 Y-League Grand Final between Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers will be played at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Saturday.
The Grand Final between the defending Y-League champions City and Wanderers FC will be broadcast live and exclusive on FOX SPORTS 501 from 2.00pm AEDT on Saturday.
The decider will be the first of three massive matches to be played back-to-back-to-back at the Hunter Valley venue.
Following the Y-League 2018 Grand Final, Newcastle Jets will host Melbourne Victory in the A-League (5.35pm), before the Jets also tackle Melbourne City in the W-League (8.15pm).
Head of the A-League and W-League, Greg O’Rourke, congratulated City and Wanderers for reaching the Y-League’s 2018 showpiece, and thanked FOX SPORTS, Newcastle Jets, as well as McDonald Jones Stadium, for helping to accommodate the tremendous triple-header of elite football.
“This Saturday football fans in Newcastle, as well as right around the nation thanks to FOX SPORTS, will be able watch some of Australia’s brightest young footballers compete for a national honour,” O’Rourke said.
“Melbourne City FC topped Conference A by three points ahead of Melbourne Victory and will now have the chance to defend the title they won last year at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford.
“Western Sydney Wanderers FC will be aiming to capture the FOXTEL Y-League crown for the first time in their history after they edged last year’s runners up Sydney FC to a place in this year’s decider.
“Saturday promises will be a stunning day of football in the Hunter Valley with a FOXTEL Y-League Grand Final, as well as key Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League fixtures to be played consecutively.
“On behalf of FFA I’d like to thank FOX SPORTS, Newcastle Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna and his staff, as well as the management at McDonald Jones Stadium for helping us to schedule such a unique event."
