Ivan Hurtado has become South America`s most-capped footballer after making his 143rd appearance for Ecuador.
The 33-year-old defender featured in the 5-1 victory over El Salvador on Saturday in Quito to surpass Brazil full-back Cafu`s tally of 142 caps.
Hurtado, who plays for Nacional in Colombia, made his international debut in 1992 and has played in two World Cups (2002 and 2006) and seven Copa Americas (1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2007) for the Tricolor.
Brazil`s Roberto Carlos is third in the list with 125 appearances, while the world record is held by Mohamed Al-Deayea of Saudi Arabia, who has accumulated more than 180 caps.
