The Wollongong Wolves announced the signing of Wilkshire on a contract spanning the remainder of the 2018 NPL NSW season.

The signing is at least partly based on raising the club's profile and crowds in the lead-up to FFA's October announcement of two new A-League clubs, of which Wollongong is a leading bid.

Wilkshire joins the Wolves fresh from winning the 2017/18 A-League Premiership with Sydney FC, where he made 25 league appearances and scored one goal.

Wilkshire joins fellow ex-A-Leage talent Nick Montgomery and Justin Pasfield at the club.

“I have had an amazing football journey and really there is no better way, for me, than to look at finishing my time on the field right here in the Illawarra and South Coast, where it all began for me all those years ago," Wilkshire said.

"A bit of a full circle really. I always wanted to one day come back home and give something back and be a part of the next generation coming through.

"This deal with the Wolves is the ideal way for me to be a part of football in the future across our region."
