At just 10-years-old, Deni and the family moved to Croatia to help support then 16-year-old’s Tomi’s football dream.

And the family's support has paid off with Tomi, 25, making a name for himself in international and club football.

But Deni has some skills of his own and said he took inspiration from his brother’s achievements.

“It’s the best feeling in the world and it makes me proud that I can say that he’s a Socceroo and that he’s made it to become a professional footballer,” said Deni.

“He’s been dreaming about since he’s known about himself. I’ve been dreaming about the same thing. The feeling is unbelievable and hopefully I can follow in his footsteps and I believe I’m on the right path for now."

Deni is a gifted striker who can hold, protect and shield the ball away from defences while possessing great instinct in front of goal.

And after being called up to the Croatian U-19 Youth team a number of times, the Aussie-born youngster was in no doubt to where his international allegiances lay.

“I’ve had a few games for them mostly friendly matches, that was pretty nice to get the call up even though my dream is to play for Australia,” he said.

“First of all, I’m born there the same as Tomi. Australia has given me something unbelievable. I started playing football there and I have family there and my father always wanted us to play for Australia.”

The teenager debuted for Hajduk Split in a friendly match, and while an injury has halted his progress, the young striker believed he was not far away from making an official first team appearance.

“A few days after I signed the coach put me on for five or ten minutes,” Deni said. “Unbelievably it was my birthday and it was my debut for and I scored. That was amazing for me.

“I’ve been on the bench in a league match and I’m trying to work my way back. Hopefully I get back into the first team as soon as possible. I’m playing for the second team at the moment and hopefully when I’m fit I got my spot in the first team.”
