Choi’s burgeoning reputation as one of the domestic game's hottest properties was further enhanced after his stunning double helped City to a 3-0 win in the NSW NPL Grand Final against Sydney United.

Citizenship has been a stumbling block to nailing down an A-League berth for the Korean-born attacker, but football fans may yet see Choi strut his stuff in the top flight for the upcoming season, with several clubs making enquiries.

“It is true that Adelaide have approached me,” the 22-year-old said., “But at this time I don’t have a visa yet so we can’t process anything further. We’ll see how it goes but I haven’t signed with Adelaide yet.

“I saw Graham Arnold come (to the Grand Final) and I guess he was just seeing our performance and our game ahead the FFA Cup game next week. But no words have been spoken to me (from Sydney FC) yet.”

During the first half of the Grand Final, Sydney United had more of the possession and their pressing game held City’s attacking intent at bay. But just before half-time Choi's switched to the right flank and soon after his wicked left foot shot from outside the box flew in and caught the goalkeeper and most of Leichhardt Oval off guard.

“I was surprised that it went in, I couldn’t believe it myself as well,” he said

“The way I hit it, it kind of gave a swerve to it. As it was going towards goal it kind of swerved outside and it went over the keeper and I saw it go into the top corner.

“I wasn’t involved too much in the game but then our coaching staff changed me and Mitch Malia and we both went to the other side and after a few minutes I had the chance to have a shot and the ball went in the goal.

“It was good that I could give our team the lead and obviously it was a good build up by my teammates as well and credit to our team.”

Next Wednesday Blacktown City take on Sydney FC in the FFA Cup round of 16 and after his recent achievements the 22-year-old was not discounting anything when City take on the Sky Blues.

“Well I’m not too sure what is next,” he said. “But every game I try my best and hopefully all the fans will be happy to see our team play. In the last couple of weeks, I have surprised myself during these performances. I am just very surprised at the moment but I’ve been training and I guess training pays off.

“Football is a game where you can’t really expect what is going to happen, it’s just in that split second that things happen. So I’ll try my best next Wednesday and play as a team and prove something to the people of Australia.”
