NAC Breda confirmed the news with the two parties agreeing to terminate the 27-year-old's contract which was due to expire at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Birighitti made 16 appearances for NAC last season after joining the club from Swansea City in September.

He also made one appearance this season where his mistake led to a calamitous goal in a 5-0 loss to AZ Alkmaar, leading to his demotion.

Birighitti has fallen out of favour behind on-loan Ajax goalkeeper Benjamin van Leer.

NAC Technical Director Hans Smulders said: "Unfortunately Mark's period at NAC did not become what we had worked on in advance, because the arrival of two new keepers significantly reduced Mark's playing minutes.

"We decided that a contract termination would be best for both parties and we wish him every success in his future career."

One-time Socceroo Birighitti, who has prevoiusly played with Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets in the A-League, didn't disclose which club he was speaking with but said he was looking to the future after a disappointing end with NAC.

"Although I had expected more from my time in Breda, I also leave with good memories of NAC," Birighitti said.

"The victory in De Kuip against Feyenoord and the celebrations that came after that is something I will not forget soon.

"I want to thank the whole club, my teammates and the supporters for all the experiences I have been able to do.

"Now it is important for me to look forward again and take on my new adventure in good spirits."
