The 19-year old is the latest in a long list of youngsters joining the ranks of Bundesliga.

Young exits Sunderland after three seasons with the club. Last season the central defender played 14 matches in the U23 Development League division two.

He played 15 matches for Sunderlands U23 side and 37 for the U18 team. 

Born in Western Australia, Young is the son of former NSL great Stuart Young who captained the Wollongong Wolves to two NSL Championships. 

Young was offered a new contract by Sunderland but it was turned down in pursuit of more development abroad.

Like George Timotheou, who excelled in FC Schalke's U23 side, Young will be aiming to find game time in Hoffenheim II as they compete in Regionalliga Südwest, the German fourth divison. 

He enjoyed spells as a youth at Perth Glory and Cockburn City before catching the eye of the Black Cats as a 15 year old on a tour in 2016. 

Young appeared in a training camp for the Young Socceroos before the AFC U19 Championships last year but didn't make the final squad.
