On Sunday, France beat Croatia 4-2 at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium to lift the World Cup trophy for the second time after claiming their maiden title on home turf in 1998.

According to the French daily Le Figaro, police have detained a total of 292 people in France, with 90 of them accounting for Paris.

"Given the [huge] crowd and despite some unacceptable excesses, we can say that the end result is moderate," Paris Prefect of Police Michel Delpuech was quoted as saying by the daily.

Earlier on Monday, local media reported that the night celebrations claimed the lives of at least two people in France, while another three suffered serious injuries.

The World Cup in Russia kicked off on June 14 with a total of 64 matches played in 11 cities across the country.
