EXCLUSIVE: FFA is currently finalising a youth coaching restructure that will introduce a high performance manager to the AIS program as well as separate head coaches for the AIS and Joeys sides.
Under the previous system coach Jan Versleijen took on multiple roles but now a division of responsibilities to help develop the next generation of Roos will soon be put in place.
FFA Technical Director Han Berger said a Head Coach for the AIS Program and the Joeys has not been appointed at this time, despite speculation that Peter De Roo of Football Queensland was to be appointed AIS coach.
“The combined position was advertised and some interviews took place. However, in the mean time FFA and the AIS are considering a re-structure of the programs," said Berger.
“It is likely that the AIS and Qantas Joeys coaching position will be separated. Also under consideration is the appointment of a Technical or Performance manager for the AIS Football program.
“Once the structure has been finalised and the successful applicants appointed an announcement will be made.”
The process begins with the appointment of a performance manager then FFA will proceed with coaching appointments for the AIS head coach and his assistant, and for head coach of the U-17s.
It’s believed De Roo, Football Queensland Technical Director, is in the mix for the position of high performance manager in Canberra.
De Roo joined FQ in 2009 after a decade with second tier Dutch clubs BV Veendam and Cambuur Leeuwarden.
In 2005, De Roo accepted the role as Technical Director at SC Cambuur where he negotiated player contracts, appointed coaches and monitored technical policy.
Other names on the radar in this new structure include former Socceroo great Tony Vidmar, the current SASI coach.
The restructure is set to be announced in the near future though no time-frame has been put on it.
There is a preference for Australian trained coaches for the three coaching positions, we understand.
But there is still no word on who is in line for the next Young Socceroos U20 coaching position.
